Beenleigh Supported Accommodation Service accepts families. Our procedural definition of a family is one or more adults accompanied by one or more children under their lawful care (usually related to the adults – children, grandchildren, wards, etc). At least one child must be under 16 years at the time of initial interview. Families with pregnancies coming to full term during the course of the tenancy are also permissible clients under this program.
Our
intake process involves an interview with one of our Supported Accommodation Service
staff followed by placement on our Waiting List. When a house becomes
vacant, the Waiting List is assessed at that time and the house is allocated to
the family in most urgent and dire need.
As at
close of business on 15th January
2009, there were 22families on the Waiting List – for the 7 CAP houses (all tenanted).
As there
are many families BSAS is unable to house due to our long wait periods (demand
grossly outstripping supply), we provide referrals, advocacy and pre-crisis
support (in their current housing) wherever possible.
