Beenleigh Supported Accommodation Service (BSAS)
is managed by
Beenleigh District Community Development Assoc. Inc (BDCDA Inc)
Under our
Service Plan with the Department of Communities, BSAS accepts families and
dual diagnosis clients (Mental health issues together with intellectual,
alcohol and other drug issues) into its Supported Housing Service.
Our
procedural definition of a family is one or more adults accompanied by one or
more children under their lawful care (usually related to the adults –
children, grandchildren, wards, etc). At least one child must be under 16
years at the time of initial interview. Families with pregnancies coming
to full term during the course of the tenancy are also permissible clients
under this program.
Dual diagnosis clients are housed under a cooperative
arrangement known as STAP (Short Term Accommodation Program). The consortium
partners are Karakan, Boystown Logan, HACC and BDCDA as community-based agencies; and the government
department of Disability Services Queensland (as recurrent funding source, auspiced by Karakan), with
support from Queensland Health (via the local Mental Health clinic, with
support from Logan Hospital and the ATODS Clinic).
We have
been housing families since 1983 - firstly as Albert & Logan Community Care
(ALCC) and now as BSAS. We operate 10 houses located in the Southern
Logan region around Beenleigh. Our targeted average tenancy is 12 months.
